The Civil War Memorial, also sometimes called the Vawter Memorial, was erected due to the efforts of Franklin resident John Terrell Vawter. It was dedicated in November 1905 to a grand crowd. Vawter had hoped to gain support for a much larger memorial to Johnson County soldiers from all wars, but ended up using $5000 of his own to erect this smaller monument to Civil War soldiers. | Source: Johnson County Museum of HistoryDownload Original File
