This graphic was taken from an 1888 map produced by the state geologist. It shows the extent of the Trenton gas field in east-central Indiana and highlights the cities that capitalized on the discovery. Kokomo was on the far west edge of the gas field. A few miles difference would have led to a dramatically different community.
