Anderson House

AME Church founder William J. Anderson came to Madison in 1836 after making a daring escape from slavery while on a riverboat near New Albany, IN. He soon began helping others seeking freedom through the Underground Railroad. He became a brick mason and built this home for he and his wife Sydney in 1846.
