AME Church

The former 1850 AME Church is one of the earliest buildings associated with this anti-slavery congregation in the US. William J. Anderson was a founder, an early pastor, and perhaps the builder of the church. In 1857 Anderson wrote and published his woeful tale of being sold into slavery and his escape from it. It is available to read at: https://docsouth.unc.edu/neh/andersonw/menu.html.
