Sloane Portrait

Rush R. Sloane of Sandusky, Ohio collected many of Sandusky, Ohio’s Underground Railroad stories. Sloane notes that before 1837, most of Sandusky’s Underground Railraod work was accomplished by free Blacks. Since Eliza escaped in 1838 it is possible she was aided more by local Blacks if she came through Sandusky in her escape. Sloane’s home, which still stands in Sandusky, was used as a safe house for freedom seekers.
