This sculpture was created by local Ohio artist Susan Shultz for Facer Park, which was dedicated in October 2007. The outstretched arms signify how close to freedom many were when they reached the port of Sandusky, Ohio. Surrounding information in the park helps to bring the site’s history to light for many who many not realize how instrumental the port was to escaping slaves trying to reach Canada.
