This replica of an 1861 Stedman was made by South Bend Replicas after an agreement was reached to display the original restored cannon in the Indiana State Museum in 2001. It is thought that the cannon was obtained sometime before 1898 by the Franklin chapter of the Grand Army of the Republic. The GAR is a fraternal organization for veterans of the Union forces. The local chapter closed when the last veteran died in 1956.
