Brutal Beating

According to the March 8, 1899 edition of the Louisville Courier-Journal, Louis Ulrich, Frank and Belle Moore’s stepfather, suffered a brutal beating at the hands of a masked gang. After tying Ulrich up, the gang opened the safe of the Jeffersonville Brewery, where Ulrich worked as a night watchman. Belle threatened Ulrich’s life a few years before. Frank, however, was in prison, and could not have taken part in the assault, no matter what his feelings were for Louis Ulrich.
