"Mob Vengeance" Plaque

For many years, this plaque marked the burial site of John Tally and John Brooks, two white men who were lynched in 1867 after being indicted for robbing and murdering an elderly woman. Although Tally and Brooks were not related to the infamous Reno Gang, the gang's activity in the area at the time helped fuel public outcry over the event. The mob vengeance against the two men proved to be a precursor to what would happen to the Reno Gang in 1868.
