Kathryn "Katie" Moore, shown here with Hoagy, was a local young woman that Hoagy grew up with and harbored a crush on for years. Hoagy had many stories for how the tune "Star Dust" was composed. In one, he was sitting on the "spooning wall" on the edge of campus one evening in 1926, nursing a bruised heart after by jilted by Katie, when the tune suddenly came to him. He ran to the Book Nook and banged on the door to be let in so he could work out the melody on the piano.
