When Indianapolis consolidated its city and county offices into a single government, called UNIGOV, a decision was made to build a larger facility. Completed in 1962 by the architectural firm of Wright, Porteous and Associates, the City-County Building at 200 East Washington Street boasts modernist design. The former courthouse was demolished in the process to make room for an underground parking garage and a public space. The City-County Building was recently determined eligible for a National Register of Historic Places nomination.
