Jacob Dowerman and Thomas Humphreys operated one of New Albany's most successful shipyards. It lay on the river south of downtown. Dowerman built this handsome house overlooking the yard in the 1830s. Today, it is a rare surviving reminder of the historical importance of New Albany shipbuilders.
